Good Neighbours
Not every solution is a compromise in design, some answers require more complication and more moving parts. In this project our first client intended to build a two-story rear extension, but was concerned with how much it would encroach on their neighbours' view and subsequently how far their first floor would need to be reduced for their neighbours to agree to.
After we sat down for a meeting with their neighbour it was clear very early on that they also had needs that their home wasn't meeting, including lack of an upstairs bathroom and a small master bed. The solution we decided on would be for us to prepare a joint extension, and to pay for our services in connection with their neighbour's planning application. Both houses are now complete and both have benefitted enormously from their cooperation.
